Pennsylvania was the birthplace of American freedom in more ways than one. For example, New England was settled by Puritans who, if you believe the history books, were searching for religious freedom. The truth, however, is that they merely wanted a place where they could impose their religious beliefs on the population in the same way that the Church of England operated across the Pond.

Pennsylvania, on the other hand, was settled by Quakers who actually wanted religious freedom for all. There were no efforts to forcibly impose their views on others in the way of the Puritans in New England.
