How EROEI AFFECTS YOU
EROEI stands for Energy Return On Energy Investment. “The Energy Return on Energy Invested (ERoEI or EROI) of any energy gathering system is a measure of that system’s efficiency.” – This has profound implications on our industrial (or some would say post-industrial) economy worldwide. For instance, Russia as well as other countries such as Saudi Arabia, have substantial reserves of fossil fuels such as oil still remaining in the ground. (The U.S. has remaining reserves as well, however, we are currently not exploiting this advantage to the degree possible due to political reasons.)
Our built-environment, our high-tech lifestyles are becoming less and less efficient due to the progressively decreasing efficiency of our processes of extracting and converting energy. The green-energy movement is exacerbating this problem.
In short, our economy and therefore our material lives will become smaller (meaning we will have less of everything). This will be a qualitative as well as quantitative decline.
Unfortunately, as opposed to orderly downsizing, there currently is, and will be, very little that is orderly about our foreseeable future. Quite the opposite is occurring, and will occur. In fact, the phenomena are observable. Take a look at the inner cities in the U.S.
This process of rapid decline is partly self inflicted due to global as well as local politics (in the U.S. as well as other Western countries).
The chaotic nature of the near-term is being made much worse by politics. Because we hit ‘Peak Oil‘ around approximately 2008, the situation would have been bad enough already. Fracking and Shale Oil have been flashes in the pan, providing short-term relief while not being economically feasible.
EV cars do not, and cannot, improve the energy situation (i.e. EROEI). In fact, EV cars are making the situation unnecessarily worse due to their lowering of the EROEI ratio. Taxpayer funded EV (Electric Vehicle) infrastructure is a false economy. We have had many examples of centrally-planned economies collapsing throughout history. America is soon to be the next.
Elective warfare in Ukraine, for which Biden is an outstanding proponent, is but one example of a boondoggle the planet cannot afford.
