Inevitably, as the chapters come to a close, the author gets off scot-free. Much sci-fi is mere confession; confession told with technological flare. And always there’s the dystopian backdrop, however shameless, as flimsy afterthought. In the final analysis, the details of the crime(s) are the context, with ‘context’ being the meat of the story.
