When the weather turns hot, the scene in Provincetown heats up too, drawing crowds to its beaches and main corridor, Commercial Street. But when autumn arrives and the crowds thin, favorite haunts remain packed with locals. One of these spots is The Mews.
In low season, you have the menu of killer martinis and New American cuisine featuring local ingredients, as well as the Monday coffeehouse, an open mic for playwrights, musicians, poets, and comedians.
High season, late spring through early fall, sees the return of the Bloody Mary Buffet, a Sunday brunch featuring dishes such as lobster benedict and Huevos Venezolanos.
Summer in Provincetown also heralds wedding season. Ptown is the country’s number one destination for same-sex weddings. Local jewelers even carry rings with same-sex designs.
If you plan your nuptials for July or August, you’ll get fabulous beach weather, but encounter challenges securing the ideal space. Wait until autumn and you’ll have the town beach to yourself, where you do not need a permit for ceremonies. Other options include landmarks, the garden of an inn, a restaurant with a view or—surprise, surprise—a church.
