San Francisco
One of the most popular travel destinations in the world, the city of San Francisco, California exists as a focal point for political and social activism. As the center for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender (GLBT) civil rights, San Francisco offers visitors both a historical, modern, and futuristic experience that truly cannot occur anywhere else in the world.
With over 200 parks, several beaches, museums, clubs, and historical landmarks, San Francisco provides vacationers, most likely, too much to do with too little time. At last in the United States, and only after decades of struggle, we move toward equal rights for GLBT individuals. After President Obama’s recent declaration of support for the GLBT movement, a visit to San Francisco’s Castro district where this fight took flight will be most rewarding and enormously fun.
Despite over 50 hills within the city limits, San Francisco remains an easy city to walk. Even more, combine a temperate climate with friendly and open inhabitants, the city unequivocally welcomes its tourists. Over the next several months, I’ll provide you with a series of entries outlining historical and modern places to visit. These locations primarily all rest within the boundaries of Castro where one can spend days and nights learning of the area’s historical importance and the obstacles that have been overcome.
